Located in the eastern Mediterranean Sea at the crossroads of Europe, Asia, and Africa, Cyprus gained independence from British rule in 1960. The country has two official languages, Greek and Turkish, alongside several minority languages. Cyprus is often referred to as the Island of Aphrodite.
